C. G. Jung Institute of San Francisco

THE MISSION OF THE INSTITUTE

Analytical psychology is the theoretical foundation for Jungian analysis, a healing practice that serves the basic human need for psychological consciousness and growth.

The C.G. Jung Institute of San Francisco was founded to advance a viewpoint vital to the conscious, ethical practice and utilization of analytical psychology and to disseminate knowledge central to that end.

The Institute trains psychotherapists to become Jungian analysts and maintains a collegial society to provide continuing education and ethical review for member analysts.

It offers education and information to other professionals and the general public and promotes research about Jungian analysis and psychotherapy.

It maintains the Virginia Allan Detloff Library and the Archive for Research in Archetypal Symbolism as educational resources.

Through the James Goodrich Whitney Clinic, Jungian psychotherapy is provided on a sliding-scale basis.

The Institute recognizes that the potential of wholeness and individuation depends on psychological development that in turn is supported or hampered by collective attitudes and laws. With this understanding, the C.G. Jung Institute of San Francisco supports in principle efforts that promote universal human rights.

Developing a Personal Spirituality

By: Lionel Corbett

Many of us are no longer committed to any historical religious tradition, yet we still have a personal sense of connection to the sacred dimension. This situation is not surprising; the traditional images of God no longer work for us, and we often cannot relate to the doctrine and dogma of the traditions, such as their attitude to women and to sexuality. However, human beings have an innate spirituality which makes us want to connect to the sacred. Our ancestors have been on the earth for over 100,000 years, and we have archaeological evidence that human spiritual practices go back to these earliest beginnings, suggesting that spirituality is an intrinsic part of human nature. In contrast to this long period, the Judeo-Christian tradition is only about two thousand years old. This tradition has tried to force our innate spirituality into its particular containers, as if their way is the only way to connect to the sacred. When there is no good fit between traditional teachings and our own beliefs, we feel we have nowhere to go, no way to express our deep need for connection to the transpersonal dimension. Our problem then becomes how to make this connection in a personal way that fits with our own personality and with our contemporary level of consciousness. One common approach is to develop our own blend of many spiritual traditions, taking from all of them practices and ideas which are helpful.

Another approach is to use Jung’s depth psychological model. Jung believes that human consciousness is continuous with a transpersonal or spiritual level of consciousness. This level is an intrinsic part of us; we are born with what Jung calls the Self, which is an image of the divine within the personality. The Self acts as a kind of blueprint for the development of our sense of self, or the person we eventually become, so that the spiritual dimension is actually an integral part of our psyche. We can become more and more conscious of the Self by paying attention to our dreams and to synchronistic events, which are events in the outer world which correspond to our inner world. The transpersonal level of the psyche, which Jung calls the archetypal level, is also part of our complexes, or our emotional difficulties and personality make-up. The spiritual dimension can also be experienced through the body, in relationships, and in the natural world, so there are plenty of opportunities to relate to that level if we are aware of the ways in which it appears to us.

Carmen Harra – Intuitive Psychologist

Carmen Harra, Ph.D.
Intuitive Psychologist, Life Master, Relationship Expert, and Best-Selling Author

“Combining psychology and parapsychology
to give you the greatest healing potential.”

Biography
Born in a northern region of Romania known as Transylvania, Carmen Harra began dreaming of the world outside her small village from a very young age. At just five years old, Carmen nearly drowned in a river near her home before being rescued by her father. But the ill-fated experience blessed her with an extraordinary gift which she would use to help millions. Before she was reeled back to earthly reality, Carmen recalls passing through a tunnel of white light and into a picturesque world of beautiful landscapes, familiar faces, and serene music. This accident marked the beginning of Carmen’s journey.

Soon after, Carmen began entering and winning singing competitions. She knew that her vocal talents would be her saving grace, her escape from the little town with no running water and no chance for progress. She quickly rose to fame, touring throughout Europe, and released twelve albums. All the while, Carmen avidly studied the ability of the mind to transcend time, the teachings of Kabbalah, and the mesmerizing science of numerology. She was also greatly captivated by the possibility of communicating with those who have passed on. Though immersed in her singing career, Carmen began educating herself on these ancient arts and exercising her own ability to see beyond time.
Carmen was first invited to America on a singing contract but soon stumbled upon a completely new career path. Already possessing highly intuitive skills, Carmen decided to utilize the gift that came to her naturally. She began offering sessions as an intuitive counselor in NYC, and word spread quickly among Manhattan’s elite. Soon Carmen found herself attending exclusive Upper East Side parties, billionaire balls, even making TV appearances in which she explained the powers of the mind we all unknowingly possess. She also opted to expand her metaphysical skills by attending Albert University and earning a Ph.D. in Hypnosis and Alternative Healing. Carmen knew that she could better service her clients by combining her intuitive abilities with knowledge of cognitive therapy, and attained a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. She began writing her first book, Everyday Karma, which has been translated in 18 different languages and sold all over the globe. And this was only the beginning of her illustrious career.

For more than 20 years, Carmen has thrived as a prominent psychologist and renowned intuitive counselor. She has counseled over 40,000 clients from all walks of life. Carmen has written six best-selling books, hosted hundreds of radio shows and live seminars, and has made countless television appearances on national and international networks. Carmen is currently working on a reality show project as well as a major Hollywood film based on her fascinating life story. Bearcloud – Visionary Artist

BearcloudBearcloud is a Native American shaman and elder of the Ni-U-Kon-ska and Lakota traditions. He practices sacred ceremony in an ancient tribal manner. Bearcloud is also a Vision Seeker and extraordinary artist in oils. His paintings reflect the shamanic practices of Native American traditions.

Bearcloud does not like to call himself a shaman, as this is not the way elders see themselves. In terms of how the white culture sees a medicine man however, Bearcloud is indeed a shaman, practicing the sacred pipe ceremony and the rituals of the sweat lodge. Bearcloud makes his sacred ceremonies available to all who come for the right reasons. As a shaman, he leads people through the healing cleanse of the sweat lodge and guides them with sacred songs and prayers. The ceremonial pipe is passed during the appropriate phase of the sweat lodge ritual, and each participant offers up prayers or intentions with the ritual pipe.

Bearcloud is a true medicine man of the ancient Native American traditions. He has been taught by elders since his youth and he follows, in a sacred manner, the teachings of the ancient ways.

As a shaman, Bearcloud is also a visionary. He is a Vision Keeper for the ways of a New Earth. The Chameleon Project is a product of seven years of visions Bearcloud has received. He has painted many of these visions on huge canvasses. Others he has rendered in computer graphics, showing in a shamanic manner, the sacred geometry of the symbols that guide us into awakening.

Renderings of Bearcloud’s paintings of the Chameleon Pyramids vision are available on this website in articles Bearcloud has written, called The Chameleon Project Beginnings, and The Chameleon Pyramids. Bearcloud also sells at his Edge of Town Gallery in Sedona, Arizona, giclees of all his Chameleon Project Paintings.

As a Vision Seeker and Vision Keeper, Bearcloud is a tribal elder in a new manner. Still in his late fifties, Bearcloud cannot really claim old age as his ticket to elderhood. Indeed, Bearcloud does not himself personally declare himself to be an elder, yet he functions as an elder for many people who are seeking to discover the ancient tribal ways. In his ways however, he has reached the numbers that declare him an elder. He walks his life and does his work in a sacred manner. Because he is deeply attuned to the Great Spirit and Mother Earth, Bearcloud is a native elder who can be trusted and listened to.
